My name is Dara Zagorski. I grew up in Hackettstown, New Jersey. I’ve spent most of life in between New Jersey and Raleigh, North Carolina. However, I do enjoy moving to new places. I’ve also lived in Virginia, D.C., Georgia, and Florida. Boston and Texas are also on my list of places that I would like to live. I am a northern girl by birth, but I have a soft spot in my heart for the south. Who doesn’t love sweet tea?!

I received my undergraduate degree from Rutgers University in 2011. My two majors were journalism and history. I am an avid reader, if you have any book suggestions, please pass them along! I also love to write and enjoy teaching others how to write with confidence. I believe that writing is one of the most beneficial skills that one can possess. My senior thesis was entitled “The ‘Visible’ Enemy: Meditations on Dehumanization, War, and the Enemy.” You can read it here. I am currently attending the University of Florida, Go Gators, where I am working towards a master’s degree in social media management.

I am anticipating many challenges in this upcoming semester. This is my first time using a blogging platform, so I am very excited about that. I am hoping to dig deeper into analytics and how social media sites intertwine with one another to create a broader platform. I also am interested in learning more about Twitter. Although, I do have an account, I am one hundred percent certain that there is so much that I am missing out on!

My resume and career transitions have been unconventional. I have spent time as a writing tutor in college and also a technical reports editor for an engineering firm. I assisted as an intern on Governor Christie’s social media team in 2011. I also was a Junior Research Analyst at the Republican National Committee for the 2012 presidential election. Although I have only worked for the Republican party, I am a firm believer that politics should not be divisive. I am always open to learning about new parties and ideas.

For the past three years, I have been with Hooters of America. I have proudly worn the orange shorts as a Hooters Girl in both Raleigh and Jacksonville, Fl. I transitioned into talent acquisition where I assisted with management hiring, college recruitment, and social media outreach. I then moved into restaurant management to learn the intricacies of operations and how to effectively manage teams. I have recently stepped down from my management position and am back to my original role as a Hooters Girl. My intent is to remain part of the Hooters’ team that I love, while searching for new career opportunities.

The past year has been challenging for me. I recently lost my dad to cancer, so for now it is just me and my mom. I’ve spent the past year searching for things that I am passionate about. I’ve placed a greater emphasis on health and fitness, taking time for personal happiness, and finding the positive in difficult situations.

I love country music concerts, fitness, yoga, dance, gymnastics, cheerleading, spending time at the beach, and hunkering down with a good book. My ultimate goal is to become a professional cheerleader and work for the Disney corporation.

I will end with one of my favorite quotes from a personal friend, “‘Love life, live for the moment, be kind, be fair, and that’s how it’s done!”
